Looking After a Tile Floor

If you have tile floors then it may take a little bit of work to maintain them and keep them looking like new.  As long as you have the right flooring supplies however, the job shouldn’t be too difficult.  It is important that you know what kind of tiling is on your floor so that you can get the right type of flooring supplies because not all cleaning products are suitable for every type of floor tile.  The following are a few tips for looking after a tile floor:

As previously mentioned, find out what type of tiles you have before you attempt to buy any flooring supplies.  For example, it is not appropriate to use products with bleach, acid or vinegar if you have natural stone floor tiles.  If you were to use these products then it could result in the look of your tiles being destroyed.  It is important that you are following the manufacturer’s guidelines regarding the maintenance of your floor tiles.

It is important to vacuum the tile floor regularly like you would do with carpet or wooden floors.  The reason it is better to vacuum, provided you have a suitable vacuum cleaner of course, is that sweeping can be more abrasive on the floors.

Keeping Dry This Winter

Although many of us look forward to winter because of the festive season and the run up to Christmas, it can also be quite a miserable time for many people due to bad weather and illness. The number of sick days that people take from work generally rises during this period as common colds and flu can be spread easily and can really take a toll upon your health. There are several steps you can take to help keep you fighting fit this winter; the most important of these is ensuring you keep dry and warm, even when you may be outside in bad weather.

Although it may sound difficult to keep dry when it is raining outside it is achievable by modifying the clothing that you are wearing; many people get sick as they get wet on their way to work and never properly dry out. Using waterproof hats to keep your head dry will help make a big difference to the rest of your day; waterproof hats can be bought at multiple places on the high street including department stores and specialist suppliers of outdoor clothing. Investing in a waterproof jacket will also help you face the elements this winter. The best type of coat is one that keeps you dry and also warm; there are many styles that come complete with matching waterproof hats and accessories so that you can still look stylish whilst staying dry.

If you are unfortunate enough to get soaked whilst venturing outside then the best thing to do is get dry as soon as possible. Sitting in soggy clothes is not only uncomfortable but can also bring your temperature up and make you ill. Many people who need to look professional on a daily basis for work struggle with their commute; some employees even go so far as to keep an emergency change of clothes at work so that they have something they can change in to if they get drenched during their commute.

You may need to modify the footwear that you wear when the weather turns bad; in summer it is commonplace to see people in open-toed shoes and sandals but these are just not suitable for use in bad weather. It is a good idea to make sure you have a good pair of waterproof boots that you can wear if there is a chance of flooding or severe rain. You should try to ensure that they also have adequate grips on the bottom of the soles to help keep you from slipping on ice or sludge and injuring yourselves; many people trip or fall every winter and it can cause much pain when falling on a hard concrete pavement.

How OCD Can Ruin Your Life

Anyone who suffers with OCD will tell you how difficult it can be to live a normal life.  The obsessive thoughts running around a person’s head can affect their life on a daily basis.  Some people find that their sleep is also affected and it gets to the point where they can’t cope any longer.

The symptoms of OCD differs from person to person and it could be the case that you need to be constantly picking up crumbs from the floor or you have to make sure that all your tins in your kitchen cupboard are arranged according to height.  For those with this condition, it may be a case that they need to clean their home even though they have just put the cleaning materials away.  They could find that unless their vegetables are all chopped to the exact same size, that they won’t be able to use them.  There is even an OCD chopping board available these days that will help with this.

Some people with OCD are even affected when it comes to eating.  It may be a case that the person feels they have to finish their meal within a specific time frame or they might only feel they can eat certain types of food.  Some people have such extreme OCD that they will only eat food that is a particular colour.  Shopping for groceries can also be affected because the colour of the packaging or the packaging itself might affect the choice.

Many OCD sufferers are very lonely because it can be very difficult to live with a person suffering from this condition.  Those who don’t suffer with OCD can find it very annoying.  It is hard to understand the need to do certain things when you are not plagued with the obsessive thoughts.  Many guests will feel uncomfortable when visiting a person with OCD because they feel they are being watched all the time.  However, this is something that the OCD sufferer cannot help.

For some people, OCD is a joke or a thing to make fun of but for the person suffering with it; it can be a real nightmare. They have no control over their feelings and have to carry out their obsessive behaviour without knowing why.  There is no quick fix to help those with OCD; it is just a case of them trying to find out why they are having these thoughts and then trying to deal with the underlying cause.

Coffee Mornings and Raffle Prizes

It’s strange how something that happened many moons ago can suddenly be remembered. Mother was involved with the Mothers’ Union at the local church and every two or three months there would be a coffee morning, in order to raise funds for something - the new something - which was critical within the church. It could be new kneelers or that the organ needed repair and on one occasion the major problem which necessitated a new roof. Obviously a coffee morning wouldn’t solve the money problems but at least everyone felt that they were making some sort of contribution.

There were always raffle prizes and although the majority of these could be the bubble bath or manicure kits or possibly an expensive box of chocolates, there always had to be at least one prize which encouraged everyone to put their hands in their pockets and buy as many raffle tickets as possible. Retailers were contacted from around the country, and mother who was the secretary, spent many hours writing to retailers asking them to donate a prize. She was obviously quite a natural at this because this was happening some fifty years ago and she managed to acquire all sorts of items. She continued the letter writing throughout the year so that there was always a steady stream of prizes she could count on. One time she managed to win a coach trip for two for a week in Bournemouth which included all the accommodation, full board and fifty pounds spending money. Another memorable prize was from a TV Rental Norwich shop who promised a television which would be delivered via a local branch and the full rent paid for one year. If the winners wanted to continue to rent the television after the first year they could, and at a greatly reduced rent.

So the coffee mornings came which was combined with a small “bring-and-buy” section which was a really good way of recycling unwanted gifts. Everyone always hoped that they had brought unidentifiable items so as not to hurt any feelings of anyone who recognised an item as one given as a birthday or Christmas present. There were always jars of homemade jam or marmalade and a good selection of homemade cakes. The high spot though was the calling out of the numbers of the winning raffle tickets. The TV Rental television donated by the showroom in Norwich was a great attraction and so was the coach holiday. The two firms who had donated these prizes actually became winners themselves as the local newspaper ran the story about the prizes and the companies received several new enquiries together with write-ups in their own local area. These were proof that one good turn given receives another as an unexpected reward.
